Last Yoga Hike in the Berkeley Hills

As the summer is coming to a close and the the rains speedily approaching I will lead the last Yoga Hike of the season leaving from the Berkeley Rose Garden up to Tilden Regional Park.
Hike, Yoga, and meditation plus a picnic… is there ANY better way to spend a sunny Sunday afternoon? And, its by donation! If you want to join this wonderful three hour event, meet 10am sharp at the Rose Garden, bring a yoga mat, a light day pack with a bagged lunch, loose layers, water, and appropriate shoes. Come prepared for a wonderful day of Yoga and exploring the Berkeley Hills and the wonderful views afforded by the climb.

Wisdom Seed

If you have yearned to prolong that sweet ecstasy of a yoga class and you are curious about the deeper aspects of yoga please join us in growing our spiritual community through an exciting new project called Wisdom Seed.
Wisdom Seed aims to create a meeting ground which brings together spiritual teachers from various traditions and seekers in dialogue to explore spirituality in daily life. Join us for the first Wisdom Seed event on October 9th. The flow of the evening will be as follows: begin at 7 pm with a forty five minute silent meditation period, dynamic/inspirational speaker, and small group discussions with Ayurvedic snacks. We are fortunate to have Haricharan (Hari) Das as our first speaker.
This event will have a $15 suggested donation, but we will not turn anyone away for lack of funds.

Meditation Techniques Workshop

Discover practical and easy to learn meditation techniques from the Raja Yoga tradition. We will spend the two hours practicing, discussing, and learning in an interactive group fashion. When right effort is combined with understanding, meditation becomes effortless and enjoyable. Beginning with an exploration of the nature of the mind and how it relates to our meditation practice, we will practice a series of progressive meditation techniques that can bring us to this state of right effort and ease. The workshop is well suited for those that are interested in meditation but have never done it before and those with some meditation experience that wish to deepen their practice and learn more. Come join us on this discovery of the internal world of the mind – it is a journey that can last for a lifetime!

Want to explore the more spiritual and energetic side of your Yoga practice? In this workshop we will learn about the power of Pranayama – the mindful and disciplined Yoga of Breath. Pranayama can release physical and energetic blockages, cleanse the body, and focus the mind to prepare us for meditation. Through several types of breathing exercises, this two hour workshop will explore the energy body and the chakra centers, teaching how to unlock each center and activate the energies using Pranayama and the power of intention. This workshop is great for those that have been practicing for a while and wish to deepen their understanding of the Yoga system to enhance their practice and health, but is also beginner-friendly and will create a wonderful foundation to launch a practice from.

Yoga on the Bay would like to invite you to share and build community of yoga teachers. Our first Yoga Teacher Hub – a monthly event that allows yoga teachers to come together to share their experiences, learn from each other, and discuss topics relevant to being a yoga teacher will be on Thursday Nov. 18th at 7 pm.
The topic is marketing yourself and the spiritual path – how these two are linked together in the yoga world. What can we learn from each other regarding balancing a spiritual path while promoting ourselves without inflating our egos. This will be an open discussion format with a brief introduction to the topic.
6 Month Anniversary Celebration – Pot Luck

This is a going to be a great night of fun, food, music, and dancing. Yes, I know it sounds a bit like a medieval feast, but I promise there will be no pig roasting at this party. There will be some really great people so if you can make it, please mark your calendars for Friday Oct. 22 @ 7pm and bring your musical instruments. Also bring a dish of your choice. Here at Yoga on the Bay we believe Yoga is a universal language for peace and tranquility. In the spirit Global Work Day focused on global awareness of the growing dangers of global warming and rising CO2 emmisions we are gathering at Civic Center Park in Berkeley this Sunday 10-10-10 to celebrate and inspire.
An expansive, energetic, and playful Hatha Yoga class followed by music, speakers, and much more! All levels welcome, and as always this is a Donation Based Class.

A Yoga & Meditation Workshop with Vlad Moskovski

Workshop will be held at: 7th Heaven Yoga Studio, Berkeley, CA

This workshop will focus on experiential and theoretical understanding of the Patanjali Yoga Sutras. The Sutras are like the Bible of Yoga, they are an ancient 2000+ year old Indian text that outlines the system of Yoga – illuminating the path to self liberation. We will explore the eight parts – limbs also called Ashtanga that make up the core of the Sutras.
You will gain first hand experience of several Pranayama – breathing techniques, that raise our energy vibrations and release blockages in the body. Throughout this workshop we will talk about the role of meditation and mindfulness in our lives and how to bring it into every moment and every breath. You will also gain a broader understand of the multitude of Yoga styles that have risen up in recent years. This will not only deepen your knowledge of yoga, but also help understand how these styles evolved.
Lastly, several restorative asanas – physical postures will be practices to rejuvenate and restore our minds and bodies. We will explore the full benefits of each asana and how they can be used to treat certain medical condition and imbalances in the body.

Vlad Moskovski is a certified NLP practitioner, yoga instructor, and meditation teacher. He has been a student of yoga for over 10 years and has an in-depth knowledge of the Patanjali Yoga Sutras, Tao Te Ching, and the Bhagavad Gita. His teaching approach is founded on the philosophy that meditation and mindfulness should be integrated into people’s daily lives and the techniques be simple and accessible to all. Using metaphors and story- telling, Vlad is able to share his knowledge in a fun and interactive fashion. He is dedicated to bringing contemplative practices such as yoga and meditation to schools, corporations, and health care fields. Vlad lives in Berkeley, California.

Know Thyself- Healing Through Insight

Yoga on the Bay Director, Star Ryan, will lead a healing Day Retreat through the California Redwoods and to the Beach. On her own journey to health, Star has learned the power of self inquiry and insight to facilitate healing on all levels- physical, emotional, and spiritual. Through guided meditation, Yoga Asana, and vigorous hiking in spectacular natural settings, she will teach the tools to bring meaningful healing into your own practice. The retreat will depart the East Bay and arrive for a late morning asana and meditation in the shelter of California coastal Redwoods. There will be a long hike in the shade of the trees, then off to the beach for an afternoon practice and to enjoy the a delicious hand-crafted lunch. All actions will be taken with guidance to cultivate the ability to listen deeply to yourself with curiosity, sincerity, and compassion. As with all we offer, this is a donation-based event!
